Abstract

Recently, the number of adults having or suspected of having developmental disorders, especially high-functioning (IQ ≥ 70) autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is increasing in our country. Possible reasons for this increase are considered in the first section. Next, this chapter provides the current situation of the outpatients attending a diagnostic outpatient clinic for adults aged 18 and over suspected of having ASD at Showa University Hospital in Japan. Thirdly, the clinical characteristics of the adults with AS are reported based on the research and clinical views in recent days.
