Abstract

Studying the phenomenon of politeness can provide an in-depth understanding of issues related to human communication. This study focuses on analyzing the positive politeness strategy used by the main character in the animation movie “Encanto”. This study uses the theory presented by Brown and Levinson (1987). This study used a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data with the data collected using the observation method. There were twenty data of positive politeness strategies used by the main character in the animation movie “Encanto”. The twenty data were divided into nine strategies. The most dominant positive politeness strategy used was Give or Ask for the Reason with the proportion of 35%. The least used strategies were Exaggeration, Avoid Disagreement, Offer/Promise, Be Optimist, and Give Gifts to Hearer that was just found one data per strategy.
