Abstract

In addition to having a thorough understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and pathophysiology and sophisticated monitoring facilities, the anesthesia provider engaged with caring for cardiac surgery patients must have a strong command of the pharmacology of the agents used in this setting. This chapter describes briefly the pharmacology of the most commonly used medications in the perioperative management of cardiac surgery patients.
