The historian who deals with the science of constructions treats various types of documents and faces problems of great diversity. He not only has to consider the works that forme the «practical geometry» but also the studies on the «simple machines», on automatons. On the other side he is confronted to a transmission of knowledge done by word and gesture that left no traces a part from the realisations, the buildings themselves.
