Abstract

Green civilization is a stage that the world economy reaches a higher level of green development. This chapter will compare and assess the levels of green development in different countries. The chapter describes the origin and evolution of the human green development index (HGDI) measurement. It offers a full account of the 2018 HGDI we have recently charted, which encompasses the preparation and measurement methods and the rankings of the 123 selected countries all over the world. In particular, the chapter discloses the environmental problems confronted in developing countries by their pursuit of economic development. It compares different methods for measuring the differentiated levels of sustainable or green development of the countries, in the hope of contributing to the realization of green development worldwide.
