Abstract

Chronic uricaria, contact urticaria and cosmetic dermatitis from ethanol were reported. It seemed that ordinary closed 48 hours' patch test was not useful in diagnosis of dermatoses caused by ethanol, because the test gave negative result. Closed 20 minuts' patch test with two-fold dilution series of 99.5% ethanol was carried out in 97 patients with the above mentioned dermatoses. Reactions were read at 10 minutes' after removal of the patch. Erythema or wheal reaction was judged as positive. 82 patients gave positive result to 8-fold diluted ethanol, 53 of them to 16-fold and 30 of them to 82-fold diluted ethanol. Exacerbtions by using the ethanol containing substances was observed in the patients with positive result to below the 8-fold diluted ethanol in closed 20 minutes patch test. Closed 20 minutes' patch test with 13% ethanol was valuable in dermatoses from ethnol. © 1986, Meeting of Osaka Dermatological Association. All rights reserved.
