Abstract

During the last few years several reviews in this series have described genetic recombination by DNA transfer in eukaryotes, especially in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and other fungi. Because of the importance of transformation as a tool for basic and applied research, in blue-green and green algae, we will extend this chapter to review recent transformation experiments in both cyanobacteria1 and algae.
