Abstract

Last year, this report noted that NIST was developing a canned meat Standard Reference Material (SRM). The analytical work on this standard has now been completed. This standard will be listed by NIST as SRM No. 1546 and is expected to be available by spring of 1999. No new and noteworthy reviews of meat analysis seem to have appeared this year and, unfortunately, information is also not available this year to update the status of the ISO methods. Just before final submission of this report, Leslie Myer, LECO Corp., the current Associate Referee for Fat Content in Baked Cereal Products by Supercritical Extraction, Fats and Oils, under the Methods Committee on Food Nutrition, has volunteered as a new Associate Referee for Fat Content in Meat Products by Supercritical Fluid Extraction. Myer now believes that work on a method for meat will actually be completed before the work on cereals.
