Abstract

Hyperuricemia is present when the uric acid level in serum exceeds the standard value of 3.5-7.0 mg/dl for male and of 2.5-5.7 mg/dl for women. Since the serum is generally saturated at a concentration of about 7.0 mg/dl, higher values may lead to deposition of the so-called urate crystals [ 1, 3 ].
