The short arm cast is a simple tool for immobilizing the wrist and forearm. It is adequate treatment for many upper extremity injuries commonly seen in primary care, including phalangeal, metacarpal, carpal, radial, and ulnar fractures. Primary care physicians familiar with the diagnosis of these injuries and the application of short arm casts can provide definitive treatment for many of these patients.
