Abstract

Racial and ethnic minorities experience a disproportionate burden of poor health outcomes. Racism has been associated with unequal treatment in healthcare and contributes to chronic social and environmental stressors that diminish health over time. Antiracism measures are necessary to address health inequities in chronically oppressed or disadvantaged populations. This chapter presents an action plan for mitigating racism in healthcare. An action plan framed from a holistic, social-ecological perspective guided by the Centers for Disease Control's 10 Essential Public Health Services, offers a potential strategy to confront systemic bias in the healthcare workforce and positively influence health outcomes.
