Abstract

A simple and mild new procedure for the facile direct oxidative methyl esterification of aldehydes using molecular iodine in combination with (diacetoxyiodo)benzene in methanol is described. Oxidative esterification is induced by iodonium ion generated in situ by the chemical oxidation of molecular iodine with (diacetoxyiodo)benzene. ©ARKAT.
