Abstract

This paper introduced the usage, energy saving characteristic and the development background of electric water-pump (EWP) for cooling system of gasoline engine. Based on a new type of self-developed gasoline engine, we work out the performance target of the EWP according to thermal balance experiment in the self-developed gasoline engine, and set the main design ideals and the structure plan. At the same time, the paper introduced the design method of impeller, motor and the controlling circuit board. During the design process, CAE tools was used to predict the performance of the EWP and the motor. The performance experiment of the trial products was carried out, it indicates that CAE's results get a better compliance with experiment, and the design target was obtained. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
