If you want to mix fiction with reliable fact then '1921' is an excellent read. As a British person the events of the early 1900's in Ireland are an invaluable insight into the troubles that still concern us today. If you haven't read '1916' by the same author, make sure you read this before '1921'. Although '1921' stands on its own as a novel an understanding of the earlier years chronicled in '1916' will make '1921' an even better read. I'm looking forward to '1923', '1930', or whatever the next in the series is to be entitled!
