Abstract

Waste material processing and wholesale markets provide work for children in the informal commercial and service sector in urban areas. Approximately 60% of the economically active population in Lima Metropolitan Area is involved in the informal sector, which also absorbs the majority of working children in Peru (Espinoza and Rios 2006). It is estimated that approximately 30% of the children work in cities (Cesip 2007). © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.
