Abstract

Given the technological advances related to Telemedicine and eHealth together with the increase of cyber attacks in the internet, we can consider that studies are necessary to improve a secure transmission of medical images. In face of this, an open source application was developed with Java and shell scripts technologies inside Linux Operating System, in order to verify the viability of transmission of medical images considering performance, secure and confidentially using SSH tunneling. In accordance with statistical analysis using test t there isn't significant difference (p>0.05) when we compare the total time of transmission using SSH Tunneling with total time of transmission using HTTP request, in the same way there isn't significant difference (p>0.05) when we compare the average transmission rates using SSH Tunneling with average transmission rates using HTTP request. Finally, we can affirm that a secure transmission of medical images using SSH tunneling is highly recommend because can provides a secure way with a level of encryption on point to point transmission between client and server, observing national and international rules for telemedicine. © 2013 Springer.
