Abstract

The initial events of Verticillium dahliae Kleb. - Gossipium hirsutum L. interaction were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The sterile root cultures of susceptible and resistant cotton cultuvars inoculated with V. dahliae were used. It was shown that mycelium of V. dahliae grew intensively on the roots of both susceptible and resistant cotton cultivars showing no directional pattern. Direct penetration of rhizodermis by hyphae was observed. No visual difference in the ultrastructure and growth character of V. dahliae on the roots differed in susceptibility was determined.
