Abstract

Author's bio: Miriam Carey Mount Royal University Calgary, Alberta, Canada mcarey@mtroyal.ca "Having finished an honour’s degree in political theory and subsequently a master’s degree focused on aboriginal claims, I completed my Ph.D. at Edinburgh University, Scotland with a comparative study of petroleum policies. I joined Mount Royal in 2001 in its unique Department of Policy Studies where economics and politics unite with a specialized focus on public policy. Moving further into the realm of interdisciplinarity, I have also taught in the University’s Department of General Education and have recently moved into the Academic Development Centre. I am passionate about student learning. I am particularly interested in student intentionality and ability to integrate academic knowledge both across the curriculum and into real life. My current SoTL research concerns critical reading in General Education foundation courses."
