Abstract

The objective of this study is to make stereo image coding more efficient by estimating the characteristics of stereo residual. The proposed method is based on the embedded zerotree wavelet algorithm, which is modified to improve its performance for stereo residual images by determining the thresholds during the dominant pass and the repetition times of the subordinate passes dynamically by considering the edge tendency of the input image. The experimental results show that the proposed method provides better performance than the conventional coder for the processing of stereo residuals. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
