Abstract

This research aims at quantifying the effect of Polypropylene fibres in Pavement quality concrete mixes. Rigid pavement construction is based on conventional cement concrete. It is a well-known fact that conventional concrete is comparatively stronger in compression and weaker in tension. It also shows the properties like brittle material and it results in the development of cracks. In this laboratory investigation, different percentages of steel and polypropylene fibres were used to check their effect on the compressive and flexural strength of concrete mixes. The final combination was named SPFRC i.e., steel polypropylene fibre-reinforced concrete. Tests were conducted with different percentages of steel fibres and polypropylene fibres. IS:10262 [1] guidelines were followed for the design of the concrete mix. The outcome shows that there is a marginal increase in compressive strength but a considerable increase in the flexural strength of concrete.
