Abstract

A review is presented of the state of the art in the analysis of materials and structures subjected to intense impulsive loading. Emphasis is placed on the penetration and perforation of solids and current developments in three-dimensional finite element and finite difference simulation of impact phenomena. The need for adequate characterization of material response and failure at high strain rates is emphasized and current capabilities highlighted.
