Abstract

Recorded signals, whether analog or digital, rarely give us the real ground motion, even using a constant factor. The velocity sensors will give output proportional to velocity for frequencies above the instrument natural frequency, however below the natural frequency, there is no such simple relationship (see Chapter 2). Furthermore, seismologists generally want to measure the ground displacement and one very important task is therefore to recover the ground displacement from a given recorded signal. This is also called correction for instrument response.
