Objectives: to identify alcohol abuse, develop a prevention strategy by strengthening social skills and determine the degree of relevance that the prevention strategy gives. Method: A qualitative approach, descriptive design and intervention study, with the participation of 232 students enrolled at the school "Ezequiel Cárdenas Espinoza" who agreed to participate by informed consent and who had no physical or mental illness. The prevalence of alcohol abuse is determined and then we intervene to prevent in cases detected. Results: The prevalence of alcohol abuse among students is 23.3% (n = 54), with the prevention strategy statistically significant changes in knowledge and attitudes was obtained, not in changing practices. Conclusions: The prevalence of alcohol abuse in students of the identified sample is high. The prevention strategy was developed in the entire population abusing alcohol, generating statistically significant changes in knowledge and attitudes, but not in relation to changing practices. The prevention strategy applied proves to be relevant to prevent alcohol abuse problems, demonstrating strengthening of social skills. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
