Critical thinking abilities are important for students to have. By having the ability to think critically, students will be able to find solutions to problems. The purpose of this study was to find out how to improve critical thinking abilities using the discussion method in elementary schools. This type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The subjects in this study were the homeroom teacher of class V, and the school principal. The data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used in this study are data reduction, data presentation and conclusion or verification. Furthermore, to check the validity of the research data, the source triangulation technique was used. The results showed that improving critical thinking abilities using the discussion method could be done by dividing students into groups, asking questions of each group, and asking group representatives to present the results of the discussion. Furthermore, to improve critical thinking abilities, it is necessary to increase the activeness and ability of students to make the right decisions.
