Conclusion and future research

Abstract

In this concluding chapter, we provide areas for future research based on the content of the preceding chapters. We start by raising the question of what supply chain risk management is and, importantly for research and practice, what it is not. Taking the view of risk management as identifying, assessing, mitigating and responding to risk, we first present research questions that would lead to a better empirical understanding of how companies currently do so. We also provide research questions pertaining to the nature of the organization itself. Next we outline prescriptive research questions that are important for managers and for which empirical and quantitative modeling research could provide answers as managerial implications. Finally, we outline diverse research methods that researchers can use to address these research and managerial questions.
