Abstract

Child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church is a problem of great dimensions and universalscope. The model of restorative transitional justice allows an adequate approach, given the limitations of the criminal justice system to respond to the needs and rightsof victims. Some institutional responses adopted in various countries are close to theaforementioned model, although the effectiveness of the special bodies or proceduresrequires changes in attitude on the part of the Church and a commitment from theinstitutions with restorative principles. The experience of the Belgian ArbitrationCenter, despite certain limitations, is a good reference for other countries in which theresponse to victims' demands for justice is still a pending issue.
