Abstract

The emergence of a modern university as a driver of regional development is impossible without its engagement in the development of the intellectual capacity of the territory, in particular, including it in the system of children’s supplementary education. The paper is devoted to the study of the university’s role in developing mechanisms of children’s supplementary education. Current trends in the development of children’s supplementary education in Russia are outlined and advantages of universities in its implementation are enumerated. A case study of the Don State Technical University as a flagship university of the region is provided to illustrate the research findings. The role, structure and peculiar features of performance of the Regional complex for gifted children and youth, which is established at flagship university, are shown.
