In this chapter, the authors explore how good housing design and location are central to supporting ageing well. The authors draw on an environmental press framework to consider whether housing built to universal design principles, such as the livable housing guidelines in Australia, has merit good qualities and generates sufficient positive externalities to warrant special treatment in urban planning policy.
