Hyperkeratotic dermatitis of the palms

Abstract

Hyperkeratotic hand eczema is uncommon. It is characterized by volar, often bilateral, and symmetric hyperkeratosis of the skin. It is typically located centrally or proximally in the palms. The hyperkeratotic skin tends to crack which may result in painful fissures. First-line treatment options include topical corticosteroids, photochemotherapy, and retinoids. Recently, the efficacy of oral alitretionion treatment has been evaluated.
