Abstract

This discussion of corrosion of stainless steel focuses on the phenomenon of intercrystalline corrosion of the steel. This form of corrosion mostly arises after heat treatment which by definition includes welding. Thus special care is needed when welding stainless steel with regard to the occurrence of intercrystalline corrosion.
