Abstract

As a kind of magnetic microspheres with good biocompatibility, biodegradability and environmental friendliness, magnetic starch was widely applied in many fields such as biomaterials, drug targeting and clinical medicine. In this paper, the method of synthesis of magnetic starch, and the factors such as temperature, pH, reaction time and concentration of FeCl2 were investigated. The optimum synthesis conditions were established by determining the Fe content in the magnetic starch with colorimetric method. Based on the results of single factor experiments, the orthogonal experiment was carried out, and the optimum synthesis conditions were as follows: temperature 65°C, pH 11, reaction time 120 min, concentration of FeCl2 0.6 mol/L. The magnetization condition and microstructure of the product were investigated by X-ray Diffractometer (XRD) and magnitic atomic force microscope (MAFM). The results showed that Fe3O4 were the main magnetic particles in the magnetic starch prepared by oxidation method. Under the optimum preparation conditions, magnetic domain uniformly distributed in the products and had good layer and honeycomb structure. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.
