This chapter takes a philosophical approach to intercultural education and argues that changes are needed in higher education and the education of healthcare professionals. It is evident that despite the increased numbers of university graduates, the world is not becoming a better place. Conflicts, cruelty and inequalities increasingly dominate the twenty-first century. Higher education should prioritize the nurturing of virtuous global citizens over the production of people concerned with economic wealth. It is argued that adopting the principles of intercultural education, which both promote and support respect, understanding and solidarity among individuals, ethnic, cultural and religious groups and nations, the world will be a happier place for most people. A model and tools developed by the author and her collaborators for the education of healthcare professionals are presented with the view that they can be adapted for any student group in higher education.
