Schoenberg's encounter in 1907 with the poetic universe of Stefan George was decisive because it came at a moment when the composer was afflicted with a major identity crisis. George's poem Entrückung is consigned to the final movement of Schoenberg's string quartet no. 2, op. 10, and sung by a soprano. Schoenberg's self-portraits completed the inner development that had commenced because of the poet. Through painting he was able to achieve a immediate self-representation, to present himself both to himself and to others as a genius who sees and penetrates the future., [unedited non–English abstract received by RILM] La rencontre de Schoenberg en 1907 avec l'univers poétique de Stefan George prend un caractère décisif, car c'est un moment où le compositeur est en peine crise d'identité.
