Abstract

Public lifestyle changes contributed to the rapid growth of various food outlets such as cafes, stalls and kiosks. Consumers have made these outlets as a place to hang out, do homework, as well as conduct work discussions. Secret recipe cakes and cafe retained its top position in cafes industry with an 8% value share in 2015 (Euromonitor 2016). Besides, bakery products also increased in market as they are widely consumed and becoming a major component of the international food market (Kotsianis et al. 2002). Consumer lifestyles have shifted to favour more convenience-oriented and time-saving options for meal occasions, as more and more Malaysians have less time and energy to prepare scratch meals at home. This trend has not only boosted demand for all foodservice subsectors in the country, but is being reflected in the changing landscape of the industry.
