Abstract

Purpose: To present an analysis based on the forensic events characterization methodology, considering the factors associated with the consequences of the effects of flood control works in the Tucunduba watershed (Belém-PA). Methods: The methodology used secondary data structured in a geographic information system (GIS) and field observations, adapted to interpret the conditions of use of space, production of evidence, exchange of evidence, recognition, and correspondence. Results and conclusions: The results indicate that the degree of influence of an occurrence can range from 18 to 33% of the total area. The use and occupation of the basin's territory is the main form of intervention. The high rainfall and the channeled river condition indicate the need for hydrological monitoring to control the consequences of extreme events during the rainy period. Therefore, the main conclusion is that there is a high socioeconomic vulnerability in the evaluated region, which increases the degree of risk during the rainy season, especially for reconstitution or recognition of the associated consequences (losses), adding up to the logistics and lack of monitoring data. Originality/value: Discuss the occupation of river banks by housing and economic activities in the Amazon region, the associated risk situations, and the investigation scenario necessary to identify the degree of losses.
