Abstract

You are tasked to help respond to an outbreak of polio in rural India which has spread rapidly and taken the health services by surprise. You respond with a childhood vaccination campaign to increase the vaccination rates which manages to contain the outbreak. You learn about other important childhood vaccinations that make up the Expanded Programme on Immunisation and important vaccination concepts such as epidemiology and herd immunity. Once the outbreak is contained you investigate ways of increasing childhood vaccination coverage and the important role public private partnerships such as GAVI Alliance have played. The cases closes with the conflicts of interest that may arise from public private partnerships and where the future lies for childhood vaccination.
