Abstract

Intervention with children with attention deficit disorders (ADDs) is complex and requires change at multiple system levels, using a social work perspective. Case management is viewed as insufficient for addressing client needs, although the case manager can be an extremely valuable person in ADD cases. Agencies must recognize that acting as a community organizer or service team member is a legitimate role for the social worker; otherwise, individual social workers and voluntary associations are left with an unrealistic burden for promoting structural change. Social work practice in ADD must encompass macro social work practice to establish respect, promote services, and create opportunities. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)
