Abstract

Along with the exponential rise in the use of the Internet and of mobile devices is a rapidly growing need for personal identity confirmation. As a result, online signature verification is being considered with renewed interest.This chapter presents an overview of online signature verification and a discussion of the most important theoretical aspects of signature generation and modeling. The principal issues related to the development of online signature verification systems are addressed, and the most commonly used approaches proposed in the literature are presented and compared.Finally, throughout the chapter, based on the state-of-the-art techniques available, current challenges are identified and promising directions for further research are highlighted.
