Abstract

Offering older people a better choice of accommodation to suit their changing needs can help them live independently for longer, feel more connected to their communities, and help reduce costs to the social care and health systems. As part of the Planning practice guidance series https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/planning-practice-guidance (Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government - MHCLG), this guidance is to help councils in preparing planning policies on housing for older and disabled people. It covers: identifying the housing requirements of older and disabled people; accessible and adaptable housing; specialist housing for older people; and inclusive design.
