Abstract

Biological data integration is currently one of the major challenges in the field of Bioinformatics. Several studies show that biological knowledge is growing at a continuous rate and is usually distributed among many databases. This paper presents an overview of data integration and the existing approaches that aim to solve this problem. The paper will also review the different ontology approaches that were introduced by researchers for representing biological data. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2013.
