Abstract

The equilibrium in the sessile drop-wetting film system has been studied by means of a Monte Carlo experiment in terms of a two-dimensional SOS model with Kawasaki dynamics. For drops with the same macroscopic contact angle, the influence of long-range surface forces on the shape of the transition zone has been investigated. The conditions for stability or instability of the transition zone profile are discussed. © Springer-Verlag 1999.
