This Chapter explores challenges and possibilities for professional development of early childhood teachers as a key part of a necessary renewal of public education. Its considerations are reflective rather than empirical; it draws on 45 years’ experience of transformative practice in a difficult context and offers critical and provocative thoughts on reforming practices from within the educational profession. A short introduction written by one of the editors provides the necessary context and links it to the thematic discussion of this book.
