The purpose of this chapter is to compare nonsurgical single-visit versus multiplevisit endodontic treatment of vital, necrotic and previously treated permanent teeth with a completely formed apex. We will describe some aspects that should be considered when deciding the best clinical approach. The quality of the available scientific evidence of short-term (post-operative pain, swelling or sinus tract) and long-term success (healing rate) of these two treatment modalities will be evaluated. In addition, the patient perception of endodontic treatment and cost-effectiveness of both types of treatments should be assessed. The advantages of performing a single-visit endodontic treatment is to reduce the total time and travel time for the patient, reduction of inter-appointment leakage, immediate use of canal for retention of posts and immediate restorations (aesthetic and functional consideration), reduced procedural costs, decreased morbidity due to repeated injections and rubber dam placement. This all advantages of single visits endodontic treatments leads on good patient compliance compared with multiple visits endodontic treatments.
