Introduction

Abstract

After explaining the hot-spot stress and its advantages over the nominal stress, the evolution of the structural hot-spot stress approach during the past decades is outlined by quoting several references. Finally, the requirement of safety factors is discussed in order to achieve sufficient safety levels in different types of structures.
