This chapter provides an overview of the most widely used measures for assessing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the closely related phenomena of dissociation, guilt, and sleep disturbance in adults. We discuss a wide variety of measures, including structured interviews, DSM-correspondent and non-DSM-correspondent self-report measures, brief screening measures, and multiscale inventories. We also discuss the implications of the DSM-5 PTSD criteria for assessment and, where available, provide specific information regarding DSM-5 updates of specific measures.
