I shall sharply distinguish between utterance acts and speech acts: an utterance act is considered simply as the physical activity of a person which produces phonic or graphic events, whereas a speech act is considered an interpretation of such an activity relative to a particular language system, a particular action system, and the social situation in which utterer and perceiver are involved.
