Abstract

The software industry generally defines traceability as an ability to manage the relation between the requirements and other outputs from the requirements, and the documents in various forms produced over the entire cycle of the R&D Project have been managed in the form of configuration management along with the source codes as they were recognized as configuration items. However, as the management of the outputs was conducted in the file unit, it is difficult to verify consistency and integrity of the files and limited to define the relation between the targets to support traceability and the target items. This paper defined the scope and target of traceability regarding RD traceability and RD based Traceability Information Model from the Research Descriptor that defined the various forms of outputs produced over the entire cycle of the R&D Project including the execution process in the R&D Project and keywords and key sentences of the outputs. In addition, it proposed to research on traceability that escapes from the limitations of traceability on the configuration items in the file unit focusing on the outputs in the existing researches on traceability through tracking of the content of the RD and RD relation types when conducting the R&D Project and that connects to the quality of R&D Project through the relevance between traceability based on such RD relation types and SW development quality indicator.
