Abstract

The writings of Ignacio Martin-Baro are closely linked to the historical context and the political and social situation of El Salvador. The alignment between the oligarchy, the armed forces and the clergy, external interventions in the economy and politics and geopolitical interests have generated serious political and social conflicts, civil war and deep social crisis in that country. This relationship of forces has changed over time. The objective is to present historical data about El Salvador and the region, to demonstrate the importance of the historical context and how they can broaden the understanding about the thought and work of Martin-Baro, as well as his proposal about the role of the psychologist in this scenario.
