Abstract

This book provides an introduction to how Social Security works and how it could be reformed to work better. Social Security is the foundation of our retirement income system and for the most part works well. However, it does not have sufficient funding to pay promised benefits starting around 2033. Also, it needs to be updated to reflect the large improvement in life expectancy that has occurred since the Social Security Act was signed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1935.
