Abstract

In this paper we present PTA, a Personal Translation Assistant for the simple access to foreign Web pages through the World Wide Web. For that purpose we have designed and implemented a language learning environment, which uses normal Web browser technology to display foreign Web pages. Before displaying a foreign Web page, we analyze it at the word and sentence level to add links to translations of words and sentences, which are displayed in a separate frame after clicking at the corresponding entry in the source text. The translation rules are completely transparent to the user and can be freely adapted to match the user's personal linguistic preferences.
